A "herald" declares, or announces someone's entrance or coming, like the Word heralded the Word, John the Baptist heralded the arrival of the Word (Jesus). I have a dear friend who's been to over sixty countries heralding Jesus, and I've had the pleasure to travel to around twenty or so countries with him. He likes funky hats.
