To "muse" in music is to probe, or meditate. It's inherent in the word "music." In this case, after spending considerable time contemplating scripture, I began improvising. Over time, a thinly veiled structure developed. Basically, this is a deeply probing muse of Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God." Hang out there for a while! When frightened we tend to work through storms on our own. Likewise, quiet in the midst of nothingness can also be frightening. The one who knows that God wraps Himself around us and indwells us, knows that stillness in His presence is peace. This is the muse, the practice of a lifetime, calm in the storm. When the disciples were in the storm and Jesus came to them walking on the water, all He said was, “It is I; do not be afraid” (John 6:20). When anxious, He meets us where we are. Be still and know that [He is] God (Psalm 46:10).
